The American Toy-Bicycle Syndrome

By • Jul 18th, 2008 • Category: Info

Bike riders are unpredictable. Motorists should not have to dodge or be delayed by bicycles. Much more like pedestrians than vehicles, bicycles should not be on the roads at all. If a separate sidewalk or other pedestrian/bicycle path can not be provided, then bicyclists must be kept out of the way of motorists by the [...]

Just remember, you are twice as likely to die in a car, per hour.

You know my wife is getting worried about biking because of all the bad things that can happen to cyclists, I want to balance it out with some auto deaths. Remember about 100-130 people die every day in a motor vehicle and only about 2-3 per day on a bicycle. found here: http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&q=car+dead&btnG=Search Hudsonville man [...]

Some good numbers to ponder:

I responded to this article: http://www.usnews.com/articles/opi..10/stop-the-energy-insanity.html In the comments section. You left one important replacement out. The bicycle, this year an influx of Americans are turning to this 100 year old technology to replace fuel consumption. The number one easiest quick fix for that 70% you mentioned is to facilitate safe transport for bicycles NOW. [...]

Bicycle safety, perception vs reality.

So I am biking home from my 35 mile commute yesterday, (I had to do some work up north and decided to leave the car at home). It gets dark, and I pass this cyclist all wrapped up in helmet etc etc, but no lights. As I pass I say “LIGHTS!” not in an angry [...]

A great article on traffic prejudice.

http://www.bicyclinglife.com/EffectiveAdvocacy/Marginalization.htm A taste of what awaits you there: In June of 2002, Robert Noel, a lawyer whose dogs killed a woman in his San Francisco apartment building, was sentenced to the maximum four years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. He was not even present when the dogs attacked. They were under the control of his [...]

Lights – My setup and why I love it.

By • Jul 5th, 2008 • Category: Bike Tips, Info

Someone asked about this on the Austin Cycling list, so I wanted to post it for anyone that may happen along. I keep two 5 led lights on my bike, and I always notice when one of them goes dim because of the brightness they have together. I get: redundancy: if one fails, I have [...]

freebiketips.com

By • Jul 5th, 2008 • Category: Info

I have already secured the domain and set up a really really really basic site. http://freebiketips.com This is my idea, let me explain: You can google around and find stuff out about biking, but there isn’t really a single place that “puts it all together” I want to make a place like this, I want [...]

A great rebuttal to the “paying your way” argument.

By • Jul 5th, 2008 • Category: Info

I did not write the following: Bicyclists Paying Their Way Recent letters to the editor indicate that there is a mis-conception that cyclists don’t belong on public roads because they don’t pay gas taxes. A study by the Brookings Institution states that only 34.8 percent of U.S. highway costs are paid for by gas taxes; [...]
